How did we come up with the name?
A "dirk" was a smaller knife used during the American Revolution which quickly became a popular choice for hand-to-hand encounters. They were typically carried in leather sheaths, often worn in the front center with the point dangling between the wearer's legs. These sheaths frequently had a pocket for a smaller utility knife, and some even included compartments for a fork.
Based on this history, our Dirk Sheath wraps around virtually any KYDEX® sheath for knives with up to 5" blades and lower by sandwiching your existing KYDEX® sheath between two panels of laser-cut HANK rubberized Kevlar material for extra grip, and uses shock cord to cinch it tight for a snug fit.
You can mount it vertically, horizontally, or attach it to your belt in a high or low position. The webbing strap on the back is lined with hook and loop so you can weave it through PALS webbing on backpacks, plate carriers, or pouches and secure it tightly.
The laser-cut laminated MOLLE slots allow you to hang accessory pouches from the front of the sheath in either a vertical or horizontal position. Pouches for bushcrafting tools, knife sharpeners, ferro rods, matches, small first aid kits, and even smaller knives can attach to the front of this sheath.
The Dirk Sheath includes two laminated laser-cut MOLLE panels with hole cutouts for weaving shock cord through KYDEX® sheaths, 24" shock cord, cord lock, and two 6" Velcro one-wrap tape strips for horizontal attachment.
The Velcro one-wrap tape strips also allow you to mount the sheath under plate carrier cummerbunds, packs with Velcro loop interiors, or inside of the kangaroo pockets on our chest rigs since you can mount the Velcro double-sided tape with hook on one side and loop on the other.
Dimensions of the Dirk Sheath are 5" tall by 3" wide and the grommet hole cutouts line up with the dimensions of most sheaths on the market. We strategically placed the holes so that even if they don't line up perfectly, you can still weave the included shock cord underneath without an issue. Sheaths that line up perfectly can use the mounting screws that come with those sheaths.
